Sweden has just under two times the population so simple rule of thumb is to double the Denmark numbers or halve the Swedish ones.

While Swedish cases are up recently, deaths seem to be going down. I wonder if it’s just a lag in deaths and/or reporting and the death numbers will spike too...

Scary stuff, Hashem should help!

When did Sweden abandon this model? Wasn't it months ago? How are we still discussing this? How are they attributing infections now to a policy from 8 months ago?

They never fully abandoned it, they still impose far fewer lockdowns than their peers

It’s not just what’s causing these infections now, it’s also what didn’t prevent them from occurring (as was claimed by some as a rationale for their policy).

I'm not sure what you are trying to show here.

What I see:
Sweden since November has less mobility than Israel, and yet it hasn't helped them. Israel has now turned the corner, largely because of the vaccine drive (and really because of siyata dishmaya).
When did Sweden abandon this model? Wasn't it months ago? How are we still discussing this? How are they attributing infections now to a policy from 8 months ago?
They never fully abandoned it, they still impose far fewer lockdowns than their peers
I definitely see no evidence of this

Still way too early to call it IMO. Many early screening cancers for example take years until they impact mortality numbers.

Doubt those numbers will move the needle. At this point in the game COVID restrictions (masks, border control, restrictions on large events) put 0 limits on early detection of cancer.

Additionally, in places like Sweden where they have few-to-no restrictions, hospitals overwhelmed due to COVID would also limit early detection of cancer, just at a different (later) period of time.

The authors concede that while there is “abundant evidence that mental health has declined”, it is “extremely challenging” to link that directly with lockdown interventions as opposed to the stresses of the pandemic itself, including the burden of bereavement and anxieties over personal risk of infection.

This is a point I was making a year ago

My point is, you don’t even know that there *will* be more mental health issues from lockdown than from just having the virus, and I can make a coherent argument against it, but we DO know that more people will die (and the person being told to lock down is one of those at risk too. Plus their family. Who’s lives they certainly don’t have a right to risk).

An Oxford University study just published shows that Denmark did exceptionally well with no loss of life expectancy during the pandemic. Surprisingly, Sweden  is pretty much near the middle of the pack, and in line with most countries, with the US having one of the greatest decreases in life expectancy.

Wow. As predicted, the Nordic countries performed best- both in locking down early and in reopening. Some of it is because they weren’t hit in the earliest onslaught but most is due to quick and decisive action. Sweden which could have acted early along with its neighbors still fell in with places who were hit earliest (and thus hardest) such as Italy, Belgium and Spain.

And the US is a total mess with too many restrictions in some states and too few in others, causing terrible damage from both ends.

Did this factor in life expectancy drop from vaccination (the Nordic countries have the world’s highest vaccination rates IIRC)? *THIS IS A JOKE. GET VACCINATED.*
