He's competing with Cuomo for FL realtor of the year.
It's always a race with Cuomo. That's all they care about.

As someone who uses the bridges instead of the tunnel saving $13+ each day is worth the extra few minutes.
Loosing a lane in each direction will greatly increase the already clogged up bridge.. #Clown

Banning gas heat is ridiculous. The electric grid is not adequate enough for it and it will cost tenants a fortune. Be prepared for NYC to look like TX did last year but worse.

The pendulum will eventually swing. Right now it has gone way too far to the left. In EY too they announced a halt to gas exploration in the sea.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

They're currently throwing money at switching people from gas boilers/furnaces to heat pumps (mini splits). Would have been much smarter to try to come up with a program that combines incentives for switching from gas powered to heat pump together with solar installs. That would go a long way to ameliorating the added strain on the grid.

I happened to have done solar and mini splits (only HVAC in the house now) separately over the last few years, and it's really a great combo if you get the incentives and set it all up right. I estimate it cut my annual gas usage by more than half, and my billed electric by 2/3 (even accounting for increased electric from the heat pumps).

That doesn't help during peak hearing hours overnight and also doesn't help for multifamily.

My comment was not directed at the gas ban discussion specifically. I was just thinking about the connection between the gas ban and this push in NYC to get people to decommission their gas boilers/furnaces in favor of heat pumps. I don't believe the program covers multifamily/commercial/etc anyway, so that issue is less relevant unrelated. The point was that the program as is would've been smarter with a solar tie-in.

As far as solar covering all the HVAC loads, of course it doesn't. [While we're at it though, since when is overnight peak heating hours? Isn't it standard to set your thermostat a few degrees lower overnight? If you told me 4-12 in the winter or something like that, I hear that (and your point still stands).] But wouldn't the grid itself - ie the infrastructure - be fine to handle winter overnights, since presumably in today's gas heavy heating environment that's a low load time for electricity? If the question is about source of that electricity, of course in the long term NY would need to branch into other renewables, and/or explore all of the emerging grid-level storage ideas. It's definitely putting the cart before the horse to ban gas before all that is in place, but that's the way this breed of progressives rolls.

Don't forget that night begins at 4:30 in the heating season. The peak electric load for today in NYS was at 5:30. On colder days it gets later than that. There absolutely have been times that the electric grid was strained overnight in NY.

Why is that? Is it comparable to the peak loads in summer? Are we talking strained on the generation side or distribution side?

There are a few reasons. Solar contributes to the disparity. More lighting is needed in the winter than the summer. Heat needs to remain active through the night to avoid frozen pipes and equipment while AC may not even exist in some industrial settings. Many warehouses have heat but no AC. The issue applies both to localized distribution and to generation with shutdowns more common in the winter due to frozen equipment.
