United zeroed out an El Al charter because Dan "appeared" to cancel travel agents' seminary daughters in 1941 Poland.

TAs were later drowned when Noah's arc submerged after Dan ordered Batchy to dispute all cubit charges.

*Update*
Dan has issued a debit memo to all TAs. In response, TAs have retroactively removed the DD affiliate code from their Amazon purchases. The sides are currently at a standoff. Only a price mistake stands a chance to bring the sides together.

Wondering how much longer they can survive doing this. Keeping my fingers crossed. Have a trip booked with them for August.

Got the following email from travel agent that I have used extensively. He is here on DDF.
I have waited patiently for him to track down my refund from a set of flights for Pesach (was a complicated booking, separate tickets on Air Europa TLV-MAD and then two separate itineraries for MAD-NYC-TLV). He has so far been able to get cash back only for one of the MAD-NYC-TLV itineraries, totaling around $3K of the total $4883 that I paid.

Quote
I can send the money back to your card but I will be hit with the processing fee (about 4.0%) that I will have to pass on to you.

Alternatively, I can keep the money as a credit for future use for any flight and any name.
Do you think that is reasonable?

I thought that only Paypal keeps the processing fees for refunds?

He is probably referring to the processing fee for the original charge, which he pays even if he refunds it.

I believe there's another processing fee for refunds. When I've returned things at small stores, they often gives cash so they won't get hit with another processing fee.

AFAIK, it's just the ~$0.30 transaction fee, but CMIIW.

Then he should be able to wire me the money?

I am charged the fee for the initial processing, not for the cancelation but it is not refunded if cancelled.

Then he is still losing the initial processing fee

So...assuming this is correct and he uses a processor that doesn't refund the fee.

Who should bear that loss?

Seems like this is a question for his and/or your LOR.
But certainly something to ask and bear in mind next time you want to use a TA.

Indeed. Would the same thing happen if my flight was changed for any other reason and I wanted a refund. I like the service of a full service TA, but not at the cost of hundreds of dollars

It's something that certainly needs better disclosure going forward. But at least now you know what to ask.

Granted, this pandemic was a rare fluke (hopefully).

The normal service you get from a good TA is unparalleled.

I sent the shaila to Rav Asher Weiss. I'll report back what he answers.
Also, I asked if there is a ribbis issue with the offer of accepting full credit instead of the cash refund deducting the fee

I had a charge-back with Square, for $1350.
I originally received ~$1300 after the fees. I lost the dispute (amex) and they debited my account the full $1350.
