Credit Cards for Israel
« on: November 21, 2011, 10:08:02 PM »
I know the Sapphire is one of the best because of no forex fee but are there any cards that offer any sort of purchase protection for Israel? Or Return protection? etc? TIA

I thinking he was asking if there's a cc that has those protections for purchases made in Israel

Yup, that's what I'm interested in knowing. Especially with Israeli stores being notorious for not accepting returns. I'd love if a CC covered that.

I did a chargeback in '07 on a GPS with AMEX when Office Depot in Malchah refused to take the pos back.

In '09 I had hoped that they had improved Israeli GPS systems and tried again but it was still absolute garbage.  This time I asked for a manager in OD to make a note on the back of the receipt that she was refusing to return the item and instead they agreed to do the return.

Why did u need the manege to sign, can't u just say that the store won't accept it?

I didn't (see '07), but I figured they would do the return rather than sign that they are in violation of OD policy.

I am curious if they have a exchange or credit policy-as oppose to return and getting your money back- can you tell Chase or Amex that the store didn't accept it. I highly doubt they will go calling up that store.

The receipt said returns are allowed for 21 days IIRC.

But SP and Amex have 90? Also, you can make a copy form the front of the receipt and sent that in. (Given that the T&C appears only on the back.)

Speaking of office depot.. I bought a cell from them in Ashdod and it didn't end up working in the US. I took it back to Office Depot in America and they TOOK IT BACK. The guy wanted to give me back $300. I had to explain to him it was shekel and he asked what the rate was and that's how much he gave me. Only in America.

Good job. Not only did you probably make a kiddush Hashem, you probably also avoided a big chillul Hashem, as I would think there is a good chance that someone up the line would have figured it out. If someone tried that with a few thousand dollars, OD would probably go after him. For enough money they might even sue for fraud

I disputed a charge about a half a year ago with my Cap1, from a little store in Geula that wouldn't accept returns. I had no issues with the dispute at all.

Disputing a charge is something else which applies always. The discussion here, is the return protection benefit which only applies to the US.

+1.
Return/Warranty/Purchase protection doesn't hard the store, but a dispute takes the money back from the store, so I personally only use it in extreme situations.

This was one of those situations, there were parts missing from the box (it had been resealed with tape) and he refused to take it back. I actually called Cap1 and asked them how a dispute works because i wanted to know if i had to give the item back after the dispute. The rep told me that they try to get the money back from the merchant, however if they are having too much trouble with it and it's not so much money, they will many times just swallow the loss.
