If you normally drive to work but are using your car much less, you can call your car insurance company and ask for a discount. The logic is theres no reason your premium should be the same if your risk to get into an accident is so much lower. Simply calling and asking was a simple process for multiple friends of mine one with Geico and one with Amica. Both got extra discounts stacked onto existing discounts. If you have other DPs please share? Thanks.

Called Progressive, nothing on top of the 20% they're giving everyone.

Called esurance to drop my miles and they said they don't use mileage to underwrite the policy in NY (I think she named only 3 states that they do)
-
Called geico for my mother and they lowered the miles for the next couple of months and she got an immediate refund of around 5% I believe

How much? Based on lower mileage?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Same with Nationwide, he explained that those states that they offer the discount based on mileage is because it’s recorded with the DMV so they can verify that the mileage used.

I also just heard that some leasing companies are giving a free month or two on your lease. Bottom line I’m thinking it makes sense to check with anyone charging you regularly for anything for potential covid discounts. Electric, water, internet, phone, gas. Auto loan, leasing. Student loans (not the gov ones which are already suspended 6 months under cares). Hell even netflix, hulu, Amazon. I would bet many companies have given reps “reactive” discounts ready for anyone asking.

Gonna look into after shabbas.

I haven’t even called my own auto insurer yet lol.

i work in this industry.. the rates are regulated and is illegal for insurance to give discounts on policies... what they are offering over the next few months needs to be approved by the states(and of course will be) that's why almost all letters have the statement pending approval. there is some talk about rebates that may be legal... if you got a lower rate then your coverage changed, most likely for lower miles.
I personally got a lower rate from Liberty Mutual by lowering mileage to less than 5000 miles. Reach out to your provider if you can.

Same here. I need to return the plates and registration to the state in order to cancel the policy.

I called nationwide and the automated voice mentioned a $50 credit that everyone is getting which will be automatic and by May 10. This blog has more:
https://blog.nationwide.com/news/nationwide-covid-19-refund/
It should go automatically to your most recent payment method. Personally I didn't get mine yet.
Rep said the $50 is all I can get and it requires state approval so it's coming in waves, they are expecting/hoping I'll get mine 5/8.
I asked for additional discount no dice. If having a hardship they can put a hold on your account for 60 days but after that you'll have to make up the premiums so no thanks. That was all.
Still the $50 is nice I guess.
