Any idea how much heroku and twillio would cost for 400 messages per month (ie: for one person to sign up to get notifications)?

i'm testing the app if its still work, as its from 2015

I have IFTTT to email set up, it works fine except that it only checks for new posts every 15 minutes.

It's a great free option, though. Plus when I'm at my computer I get chrome notifications which are instant.

each sms cost 0.0075
Number cost 1.00 a month

so for 400 msg it will cost:
400X 0.0075 = $3

so $4 a month

Not bad. You also have to be techy enough to set it up for yourself.
If you save $4 a month on tissues you'll already break even

Make an account with IFTTT, and create a recipe (I think now they call them applets?) like this:


You will probably need to connect/verify your email account. I set it up years ago so I'm sure the step by step is different but I can write it up tomorrow if you want.

Looks like there will be a way to share a link with all the config if I redo it in their new interface. I take that back. It used to work but I guess they got rid of that feature

FWIW IFTTT has a wordpress connection. You need to log in to your wordpress account to use it. Does anyone have a wordpress blog and want to see if they can set it up so new posts get instantly emailed to a specific address? Then maybe we can work out a way to autoforward those emails to sms.

Twitter and FB is manual posting.

I'm really tired so not on top of my game. I wrote up a quick petition, and I'll leave it here for a few minutes so DDFers can tweak it before I launch it. Please give your input or corrections:

Twitter: Bring Back SMS Notifications!

For nearly 15 years, Twitter has been at the helm of the social media world, serving as a driving force in keeping people around the world connected and informed. Led by CEO Jack Dorsey, the platform gave people of every demographic and in every community the tools they needed to utilize the technological masterpiece Twitter had grown to be.

Last week, Twitter removed the option for users to receive tweets via SMS text messages. Twitter via SMS has been a vital tool for thousands of users with no internet access to be able to tap into Twitter-sphere, often serving as their sole connection to the wealth of information shared on Twitter. Removing the option for users to get tweets via text messaging will cut certain demographics and communities out of the Twitter experience.

I am a member of the Orthodox Jewish community. Many members of my community do not own smartphones or have internet access, and they rely heavily on Twitter's SMS notifications to keep them connected and informed. Please restore the SMS notification capability and give them access once again to the wonderful world of Twitter.
