I'm really tired so not on top of my game. I wrote up a quick petition, and I'll leave it here for a few minutes so DDFers can tweak it before I launch it. Please give your input or corrections:

Twitter: Bring Back SMS Notifications!

For nearly 15 years, Twitter has been at the helm of the social media world, serving as a driving force in keeping people around the world connected and informed. Led by CEO Jack Dorsey, the platform gave people of every demographic and in every community the tools they needed to utilize the technological masterpiece Twitter had grown to be.

Last week, Twitter removed the option for users to receive tweets via SMS text messages. Twitter via SMS has been a vital tool for thousands of users with no internet access to be able to tap into Twitter-sphere, often serving as their sole connection to the wealth of information shared on Twitter. Removing the option for users to get tweets via text messaging will cut certain demographics and communities out of the Twitter experience.

I am a member of the Orthodox Jewish community. Many members of my community do not own smartphones or have internet access, and they rely heavily on Twitter's SMS notifications to keep them connected and informed. Please restore the SMS notification capability and give them access once again to the wonderful world of Twitter.

Any comments? Should I launch this petition or should I save my breath?

Only a daily digest though. Q is if any of the many choices are instant. I used mailpoet years ago and it worked well but I don't remember if there was a delay in the emails.

Make an account with IFTTT, and create a recipe (I think now they call them applets?) like this:

Though the old one still seems to work.
The problem with groupme is that the messages are often delayed, sometimes even hours late.

A better solution might be rss to email, and then have gmail forward the email from your gv # to your cell # (you can get the number for this by going to voice.google.com and sending a message to your phone, and then replying. You'll see the 'email address' it creates for you to send messages to your cell #).

yes i said it before.. but i think this is the best and cheapest option..


here is the thing tho, via the group me API i was getting a sms, not sure if via IFTTT i will be getting

Sounds good. If it can add you to the list automatically.
Problem now is, all followers need to get notified, and can't be notified by SMS.
If Twitter wouldv'e given any notice, that would've been much easier.

Hi everyone 
For “kosher” smartphone users: I don’t want to encourage anyone to download the Twitter app, but here’s an idea I had:
Sign up for another account and download the app. Follow whatever accounts you’d like to receive notifications from and allow push notifications. Then have someone else change the password (or do half the password and your spouse half) so you can’t access the actual app but you’ll continue to receive the notifications.
Anyone see a flaw with that plan?
