Like all the men who call their wives "superwomen" and say "I'm in awe of you, I could never do what you do". It sounds nice but the real effect is to make them feel good and simultaneously let themselves off the hook. Long time pet peeve here.

-1  usually we are not home every day throughout the day. so even though we know whats happening, we don't get to see it. and now the women have a lot more extra work. even if the husband helps out, there are still certain tasks that are simply the wifes headache.

Depends if "I could never do what you do" goes along with helping, or if it's an excuse not to.
