Also probably not for your not-so tech-savvy friend, but I'm using an old android as a webcam with the DroidCam app, and it's working surprisingly well. Just good to know that it's an option.

I initially tried using something like this but the back of my monitor is a bit textured so it kept falling, so I resorted to using a mending plate with 2 pieces of duck tape, which works fine. Not pretty but it's on the back so I don't really care. You can bend the mending plate before putting it up to angle the camera however you want. See attached.

Thanks! I meanwhile had mine attached with tape as well, but hanging over the front and blocking part of the monitor. I'll try your method.
