From what I hear, someone who tests positive multiple times will be counted as multiple cases.

Terrible. It makes us continue to rely on new hospitalization stats which is very delayed. So if there’s an uptick either we can be extra cautious for no reason for a few weeks, or we ignore and it results in a bigger wave.

Source? A family member who tested positive 3 times was basically told this on a call from the CDC. If the people the CDC is hiring believe this is the case, it's highly probable that it is true.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

You’re conflating two things. While they would be reported as two positives in the overall test count. The cases count which they put out by region would only include new positives.

So (s)he has COVID now. What is your point? They need to  isolate for at least 10 days from onset of symptoms or positive test

Not sure how the numbers are skewed. They are positive and now have a positive test counting towards the stats. Are you saying the case numbers are deflated from false negatives?

I really don’t. How is this an example of numbers being skewed?

I think he's saying they're double counting his 2 positives. Anecdotally, it seems to be quite common for people who are positive to get tested twice.

But on what basis? What about people who tested negative 25 times?

Do you really think they counted both of your tests as 1 positive?
Testing negative multiple times doesn't affect case numbers, it only affects positivity rates.

From what I remember from a while back, positive tests are counted only once per person.

Why would you think they count two tests from the same person as two separate positives? If they do, what part of this story teaches us anything anyway?
Anecdotally, it seems to be quite common for people to get tested twice or more.

Are you saying people who are negative don’t get tested often as well?

I have yet to see any evidence of a possible system that can weed out duplicates.

Multiple negatives have no effect on the number of cases and they only affect the positivity rate if they're very close together.

Everyone who tests is asked for identifying information, wouldn't that information be used to identify where the positives are coming from?

The system in these states record the positives with all of your info. So when they log your info and see that you had a previous positive then they won’t count this as a new positive.
