It's definitely tough, very hard for people who haven't missed in many years.
I heard a shiur from R Menashe Reisman on this around a month ago, and he said over from a big Rebbe (I believe it was the Vitebsker) that a Yid who doesn't believe that the Ribbono Shel Olam is a שוכן איתם בתוך טומאתם, that too is a form of Minus RL. There is no need for Mikva now as the רצון השם is obviously that we should not Toivel, and that itself is our טהרה.
He also said that the Arizal, during the 2 years he lived in Tzfas and was nigleh to us, had an old mother there. And that he came down with a cold and his mother told him not to go to Mikvah, so for 6 months (until his mother passed away) he did not go. Rather he "Toiveled himself in the mitzvah of Kibud Eim". Sometimes its 40 Seah that brings the טהרה, and sometimes its Kibbud Eim. Keep in mind this was the Holy Arizal who taught us the holiness of Mikvah and who's Mikvah we still use until this present day.
With this attitude we can survive, and 9 Kabin is 100% acceptable for Men, even in regular times.
