Miscarriages due to COVID-19
« on: May 03, 2020, 07:58:45 PM »
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/01/second-trimester-miscarriage-attributed-to-a-coronavirus-infection-of-placenta.html

I wonder what the numbers in our community are - does anyone know if there's been an increase in miscarriages/stillborns over the past months?

The reasoning is that COVID-19 can lead to blood clots and “The placenta is made up of miles and miles of blood vessels. Anything that causes clots in the placenta is going to diminish oxygen for the embryo or the fetus and put the fetus at an increased risk of demise.”

I know someone that had a stillborn, mom tested positive.
But they're unsure if it's related.

Those would have all been 3rd trimester when this started.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Heard a story today of someone (in our community) who's having a stillborn and is C-19 positive.

One case one way or the other is not enough to establish anything. You need a larger sample size and then see if the rate of miscarriage is higher.

Agreed. Hence I started a thread to perhaps gather info/data.

As someone that went through the trauma of a late term miscarriage this thread gives me chills.  And just in case any women might read this there is no reason to scare them with no real proof.

The linked article has sources. I'd love nothing more than to have the data from our community (high rate of Covid-19 and high count of pregnant women) to be able to disprove this. Which is why I'm fishing for this data...

(Aside, this topic can be traumatic to men just as much as women.)

Spoke to one ob/gyn in Lakewood and they said they have not experienced any stillborns since the pandemic started.

I was told by one Lakewood OB that approximately 20% of babies he delivered while the mother was COVID positive have returned to the NICU within the week for respiratory issues
