First new backyard bird in nearly 8 months. Was only a flyover, but I'll take it.

There's one (rather small) tree on my block that seems to attract birds in a disproportionate way. Parking close to it will guarantee your car gets coated, and the sidewalk around it gets filthy. Sometimes I wish I could just chop it down (not really legal in NYC). What can one do about it? What would cause this one tree to attract so many birds?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
