it's officially not healthy for squirrels

I don't really care about this :P

It needs to be sprayed every couple of days.

But this is why I don't do it.

Also, it doesn't prevent them from jumping.

My wife is more tolerant of a $100 hobby. As long I don't start with photography equipment...
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I've seen this suggested as a solution. Setting up a squirrel feeding station with dried corn.

I'm assuming the best location (for a bird feeder, not a hunter feeder) is dead center of a yard, the furthest from any trees, correct?

10 feet away from everything should do the trick. Don't forget about fences, structures and just not trees.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

As far as squirrels go, yes - and add to that @CountValentine's points.

Just remember that if it's too far for you to enjoy properly, it might not be worth the tradeoff.

However, from what I'm reading it seems you may have a better chance at attracting birds if you have a tree as a staging point nearby. So I guess it's a trade off.

Indeed. Basically at least 10' from a tree, fence, etc.
