You can do it on the allaboutbirds website without having to download any bird packs.
If you don't care why would you comment?

Nice, you just had them in that jar straight out of the package?

I picked some grape jelly up at Rite Aid on the cheap in case that helps.

We spotted a new species yesterday, however we are boggled as to what it was!

We don't have a picture to reference, so this is the description as we remember:

- They were really small, like chickadee sized
- The head was faint yellowish, maybe even olive colored
- Chest was white with thin brown streaks
- The wings had a pronounced white square looking feather in the middle

It was a pair of them, and they weren't afraid when we came close to the window.

I didn't actually see them eating, but they were on the branches next to our suet feeders when we first spotted them.

If anyone has any ideas, or good resources (with pics) that we can use to figure it out that would be helpful. TIA

I didn't see him eat, unfortunately it was pretty close to shabbos and didn't have much time to sit and watch

Mine is holding up just fine, with the exception of the plastic tube feeder which was destroyed by squirrels

It may be less likely since you saw two, but perhaps they were leucistic?  Would you have identified them as chickadees if not for the coloration?

Is that how Merlin identified it? I guess we shouldn't expect the Department of Ornithology to also be correct with entomology.

No, even just in size alone, they were probably even smaller, but for sure thinner than a chickadee.

They were clearly meant to look the way they were which would rule out leucistic.

How long do you leave the jelly out for?

I always thought it goes bad after a few days, so i only put out a little at a time.

The squirrels generally eat it before it goes bad.
