I thought they were pretty common around here. I've spotted them a number of times.

It might make sense considering Song Sparrows are ground feeders, and his feeders are on a deck.

Iv'e never seen them actually landing on our feeders, but they do very often flit around underneath them.

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Nice shots!

We also spotted it here but the tiny bird was darting between branches faster than my camera could focus on it...

This is sadly the only pic i could come up with... enough for a positive ID, but barely.

Species #49

For Species #50 here is the really cool American Redstart (Female)

It stuck around for a few days, but we did not spot a male nearby.

If you look closely, you can spot the whiskers near its beak.

Always fun to see a really large bird to really put how small the other birds are into perspective.

I'm talking about in person, because pictures don't convey size realistically.

This Red-tailed Hawk stopped by our yard on Sunday.

ID'd a Brown Creeper. Tiny bird with a brown striped back and white belly. Creeps up a tree like a woodpecker. No picture.

How much do y'all pay in bird feed per week to keep up this hobby?

What are the other necessary items? (for me to figure out approximate costs)
Specific feeders (what type are the best?)
camera (an essential optional IMHO)
an identifying book
plus??

Not counting the cost of the feeders themselves, I estimate I spend $10-20 on food per month.

Started a wiki too.

Species #54 Black-throated Green Warbler (Female)

It's funny how some species are named after the males, and the females dont even resemble their own name.

The male has a black throat and the female does not.  ;D

Lucky you! That's a rare sight!

I read somewhere that sometimes they will live on a single tree their entire lives.
