De Blasio's incompetence has been reported on quite well, though Cuomo has largely been celebrated even though he deserves equal blame.

But here are a couple of things being reported on today.

Not only did they not shut down the Subway, infecting who knows how many people, but it also took until the middle of May (?!?!?!?) to actually clean the darn cars.

Imagine Trump screwed over volunteering nurses to score political points
https://twitter.com/ellencarmichael/status/1258037219983581184

The way NY treated nursing homes will end up being a huge story. They refused to allow nursing homes to send Covid patients to the makeshift hospitals (the ships, the Javitz Center, etc.), refused to allow them in regular hospitals, and kept patients in nursing homes to spread the virus among our most vulnerable. Not only was this a major driving force of the Corona numbers in NY, but the sheer inhumanity of it all is stunning.

And this is De Blasio's response:

Take out NY's awful response to this virus and how is the rest of the country looking?

Thank you for pointing these things out. Great thread by the way. Hope it stays OT.

What am I missing here?

Maybe it's too extreme. My point stands: switch Cuomo for Trump and imagine the response.

Correct. But they graciously relocated to NY only to provide critical support while not making any extra money there.

I don't agree that you were too extreme. They are literally biting the hand that feeds them. These people get nothing out of NY in terms of benefits: they aren't drawing a salary from a NY business, nor are they getting programs.

Fair point, although it’s not quite the same as having slapped an extra tax on them, it’s the standard tax all workers earning money there pay.

Agreed, there should have been an exception made.

Seems like Trump is probably a good analogy here.
Yes, he said something really stupid but did he actually do anything terrible?

Maybe I'm not understanding what's going on here but is this not just the regular tax rules kicking in? What exactly was he supposed to? Is there even a mechanism in place to waive those taxes or would special legislation be required? (these are legit questions, no gotchas. I really have no idea what's going on)

They would likely need to waive it specially.

There would need to be exceptions made. The point is, he's saying he won't make exceptions because the state lost so much money recently. That's why this is on him.

Cuomo doesn’t really have a choice as long as he is being stubborn about the reopening. They desperately need any revenue they could get.

IDK, Dinkins is definitely in the running for this title, I think he probably wins.
I feel like he would've found a way to screw up here far worse than DeBlasio

I don't live in NYC but god dam NY'ers picked them selves the most stupid and selfish officials,

The cleaning the trains is worth nothing unless you do if after each trip, it was more of a cover up to get rid of the homeless.

The nursing homes were forced to take in covid patience which turned out to be mass murder situation

About 25% of the covid deaths were not confirmed

"Go take a job as an essential worker"  prob the stupidest thing cuomo ever said...

the list goes on and on...

Ventilators ventilators ventilators ;D

Of course it's the regular laws kicking in. No one is accusing him of making special rules for the nurses. But if there is no mechanism in place to change that (doubtful), let him say so. Instead what he said was:

"We're not in a position to provide any subsidies right now because we have a $13 billion deficit," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "So there's a lot of good things I'd like to do, and if we get federal funding, we can do, but it would be irresponsible for me to sit here looking at a $13 billion deficit and say I'm gonna spend more money, when I can't even pay the essential services."

He's using the nurses as a pawn in his political games. So yes, screwed over wasn't the right term, as even if they're being screwed, he's not necessarily the one doing the screwing. But as I said, flip the names and imagine the reaction. Instead, Cuomo goes on CNN and jokes around with his hypocritical quarantine skipping liar brother and everyone laughs and laughs, ha ha ha.

Nothing worse then when he was asked about people being afraid they will have to go back to work when stuff reopen because they will lose their unemployment benefits. His reply "We don't do forced labor in this country", so apparently now we pay people to stay at home when they could go work in this country.
