For what? Locals staying home? Or how numbers are allocated based on state of primary residency?

That there were a large number of people who got sick in Florida and went home

Here's the thing people miss about Florida. The locals have all stayed home. All those people coming from hotspots? When someone gets sick in FL, but they are a resident of another state, it doesn't count towards our numbers. They count the infection on the home state's numbers. Florida's numbers look great, but the truth is a lot murkier.

So where is all the data from all those other states reporting the cases that came from Florida?

The thing about Corona is that it is new, and we simply did not know anything about it. Based on what we understood, we built opinions and cast certain politicians as villains and some as saviors. Now that more data has come in, it is time to recheck our priors and see if maybe the ones we thought we acting as cold-blooded murderers where actually smartly instituting targetted shutdowns and allowing unaffected areas to remain open.

There was an article that used cellular tracking data to track where the infected from spring break Florida then spread out.

I was wrong about the Mardi gras dates, that was earlier.

Forget FL and their good numbers. This thread is supposed to shed light on the crap that is going on in NY.

Glad they decided to open the beaches to sun bath for Memorial Day.

Did you read this article? It is talking about the Census, not infection numbers.
How did you get anything close to what you are claiming from this article?

You're both right. Here's the CDC COVID-19 Case Report, which collects key information on COVID-19 case-patients and is used in the official stats:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/COVID-19-Persons-Under-Investigation-and-Case-Report-Form-Instructions.pdf

Note page 3, where State and County of residence are documented.

ETA: the real original source for me personally was anecdotal, which is why I didn't bring it up. I happen to have a few family members who were living in NY but have their legal residences in another state, and upon positive tests, were interviewed by the CDC and gave their legal residences. The interviewer told them they'd count as a case in their resident state, regardless of where the test was taken.

So where is all the data from all those other states reporting the cases that came from Florida?

There were news reports coming in as soon as the week after spring break about positive tests from people recently returned from spring break. The thing is, the spring break demographic is 17-25. The chances of them having getting tested, being hospitalized, or dying are pretty low. In fact, it's a pretty low risk proposition to have spring break for the actual spring breakers, in general, given what we know about who is affected more seriously. But who did all those young adults spread it to? You'd have to have great contact tracing to get the full scope, and we just don't have those capabilities.

Most? Can you provide us a scorecard?
Oregon - Ruled  illegal for entire state. - Currently on hold by state supreme court.

Wisconsin- Ruled all restrictions to be invalid- ruling currently upheld.

Ohio - A Lake County Court of Common Pleas judge ruled against Dr. Amy Acton and the Ohio Department of Health in a lawsuit filed by more than two dozen gyms that were ordered to close as part of the statewide stay-at-home directive.

North Carolina- Houses of worship in North Carolina can temporarily hold indoor services after Judge James C. Dever III issued a provisional restraining order on Saturday allowing religious groups to assembly for services inside for the next 14 days.

Texas. - Texas Supreme Court says coronavirus restrictions on business ‘may not survive judicial scrutiny’

Courts that didn't grant an injunction or issue a ruling saying draconian orders can stay in place

Michigan- A Michigan court on Wednesday denied a motion for a preliminary injunction against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's (D) stringent stay-at-home order, finding that the state had the authority to enact such a policy "when faced with a public crisis."

Don't forget that there is a very good chance that some of NY's outbreak in the frum community originated in FL the same way the patient zero case in Westchester brought it from there.

Do you know of any rulings in NJ?

I know of dozens of filed suits around the country but not of many rulings.

Seems like I got confused with another state, but here is a more comprehensive list

First have the media proclaim and broadcast how you're all going to open together and then .

Who said Cuomo is deviating? Maybe it’s CT that’s deviating.

Most citizens won't blame government when they believe the government acted in good faith and that's when covid all started.

Currently, I believe the tide is turning, people don't understand why a clothing store  taking  more seriously SD then a packed wallmart must be closed. A beach can only open on May 22 and not May 21, what changed overnight.

In the USA we live on a model of freedom and  government has an obligation to restrict the least possible.
Unfortunately it’s looking more and more like you’re right and many of the rules are arbitrary and not scientific

Because science has a hard time determining where to draw the many and moving lines involved in a gradual reopening.

Perhaps, but many countries have reopened to an extent and they seem to be doing a much better job at drawing lines and implementing restrictions than NY/NJ. If we’re going to proceed with extreme caution, that’s an approach, but a lot of the way they’re deciding what gets tossed and what stays in place seems to be arbitrary.
