Everywhere. It's from Jan 26 until the current lockdown ends on Jan 31. It may be extended but extremely unlikely that it will continue more than a week or two

What is this electronic tracking thing? A device they give you? How do they enforce you keeping it on your person at all times and not just leaving it home when you leave?

I'm not sure what exactly Taiwan does but you can track phones, tracking device, Shen Bet capabilities to locate people even without their phones. Ankle bracelets/real punishments can create significant deterrence and dramatically increase the 30% compliance rate.

My money is on 2 weeks, unless numbers improve dramatically. This way it also give the government enough time to finalize the green passport etc

I can see it going both ways. The politicians and their circles can't stand having the airport closed, but most of the country likes it and the ruling parties are desperate for public support.

2 weeks with enhanced measures upon reopening is indeed a reasonable presumption.

I agree 1000% that it’ll be effective. Will something like that fly in Israel? Pigs will fly in the US before measures like that pass here, even with the Ds in control.

Some would argue 400,000 deaths is the pigs flying. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, Israel already passed new requirements to test prior to departure and upon arrival, and it's easy to see them raising the fines.

After the last lockdown they were too quick to roll back restrictions and ended up in lockdown again. This is all about establishing a new normal after the lockdown, it's not a measure to slow the surge of cases in the immediate term. R is already at 0.90.

Israel is already closing airport for flights carrying Israeli citizens and used civilment movement tracking to identify & quarantine Covid contacts. Electronic tracking bracelets for people in mandatory quarantine is a smaller step.

What difference does 5 days make, over requiring all arrivals to quarantine at a quarantine hotel or some other measures (e.g. negative PCR within 72/96 hours)?

Rather than thinking things through, they create measures that drive people to use a workable solution that involves "fooling" the authorities (which is extremely easy).

The fastest way to get a negative PCR test that will allow people to board a flight (or be let out of quarantine) involves "photoshop" methods. It's much faster, easier (and is accepted) than other methods or labs.

A real civil war is not impossible. If (when?) the American financial/political machine collapses, the residents of what is now the 50 YS states might not agree on how to pick up the pieces, and are likely to take arms in pursuing their visions.

And now you have hundreds of people that were scheduled to fly back later in the week and will now want to move their flight up to today or tomorrow, but can't get a negative PCR test (though the Photoshop labs will be extremely busy - I imagine they'll raise prices due to increased demand).

If they would be a little open minded and use some brains, they would do what Australia has been doing (I'm not saying that's what they should be doing, but it's a better alternative than what they are suggesting). Everything is done in a reactive mode without a proper thought process.
