Photoshop labs have been busy throughout the pandemic   ;)

Indeed. But now there's increased demand.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

How in the world are people supposed to fly under the exceptions in #3 private jets only?
Yes, although maybe UA will be allowed to carry exempt pax on their 'cargo' flights, which would render the whole ban fake news as traveling to alternate permanent residence is considered an essential need.

If they would be a little open minded and use some brains, they would do what Australia has been doing
Australia has a backlog of hundreds of thousands of citizens waiting to fly home due to capacity constraints at the hotel.

If they would be a little open minded and use some brains, they would do what Australia has been doing (I'm not saying that's what they should be doing, but it's a better alternative than what they are suggesting). Everything is done in a reactive mode without a proper thought process.
There was no thoughts put into this.
Covid cases are high despite the 'seger' and despite the high vaccination rate.
So blaming foreign travel can buy Bibi another week or 2, and hopefully by then numbers will go down and Bibi can claim he had a genius idea.

I see United still has flights open for this week.

How would they compensate if I purchase a ticket and then they will obviously cancel the flight?

Would I be able to use it for future travel on any flight? or just the dollar amount?

You have 24h free cancellation regardless

While I generally support Bibbi as far better than any of the alternatives, it is pretty funny that they're shutting down the airport when his main opponent Yair Lapid is on a much publicized trip to NYC.

What are the ground entry rules? Is flying to AMM and entering Israel by car going to be a viable workaround for anyone?

That's kinda what I'm asking. I would think they're open in some capacity, for "essential" travel.

Excatly. Just like to solution to $100/bbl oil prices was $100/bbl oil, which brought more production online, and the "solution" for too low oil prices are low oil prices, which put weak players out of business, thereby reducing supply, in a similar fashion the solution to high infection rate is exactly that - high infection rate (as we have evidenced in Crown Heights, Williamsburg, KJ and Boro Park), and the inverse is, unfortunately, true - low infection rates will result in infection rates rising (barring real draconian moves as taken mostly by totalitarian regimes, but also some other places).

They would need to fully staff the flights. No way it would be worthwhile.

A big percentage of anybody who is traveling now is traveling to an (alternate) permanent residence or other essential need, but I do agree it appears the governments intent is to shut off travel entirely, and you make a very good point about UA not carrying a small amount of paying pax.

AC has many flights in the schedule where they are only selling seats on the outbound YYZ-TLV for this reason (I guess it's worth crew one way but not the extra cost of a crew for  the return).

I know someone who booked a business saver award ticket yesterday to fly this week, before United canceled the flights. After they canceled, they allowed him to change the flight to a date which did not have saver space avail

Booked with UA miles (for this reason. I doubt UA would be helpful in changing a flight booked with TA)
New ticket is saver, same 75k
helpful to book with an account that has UA status. Their premiere desk agents are very helpful
