Officially they let you change 2 weeks each way from the original flight. I highly doubt it’ll work for Sukkos.
it worked for Pesach.
Not much risk involved

If the ban is lifted in Feb 1st, then they can take passengers on Sunday, with landing scheduled on Monday.

I just have a strong feeling the ban will be extended

I think it's 50:50. There is a lot of pressure from stranded Israelis.

Maybe. The government is discussing that. You're still back to the same problem of having to enforce the quarantine somehow.

Agreed.
I dont see any way besides isolation hotels.
I think it's more manageable when there are less travelers out there.. but it will still be a massive headache / clown show

The Quarantine hotels didn't work hermetically. People were allowed to walk out by paying a 5000 NIS fine, and prostitutes were caught coming in. I don't understand why electronic tracking of home quarantine is more burdensome (granted you would have to isolate additional house members too)

You're referring to phone tracking or electronic bracelets etc?

Bracelets. Forcing somebody into a hotel room is much worse than making him wear a bracelet IMHO. Taiwan does that.

There is also a middle ground of periodic daily check-in video calls etc

I cant picture this being accepted in any western country, let alone Israel.

Perhaps if we would have done it from.day one by branding foreign travel as extremely risky etc. But a year into the pandemic no one will accept that.

And two months before elections Bibi won't be crazy enough to come up with this.

IMHO

I understand it's speculative but I think closing the airport was Bibi's posturing tactic to legitimize electronic tracking. I can't find the link but the possibility was raised in the government a week ago right before closing the airport.

UA is still selling seats from Feb 2. Everything up to Jan 31 is cancelled, so Feb 1 is likely just sold out (may be a good idea to push it off by a day if you want to avoid crowds).

AC & DL are selling seats from Jan 31 which is when the current rules expire.

YWN: Israel’s border crossings to Jordan have remained open despite the closure of Ben Gurion Airport to most flights, Kan News reports. The open border with Jordan means Israelis abroad who wish to fly in can land in to Jordan and then travel to Israel, bypassing the closure that began overnight and which is scheduled to last till the end of January at least.
