Lakewood traffic on the roads is up exponentially since last month. My niece says that whenever she calls a home of one of the high school girls in her grade she is given the number of a friend they are visiting to reach them.

Yeah, I get the difference. But how/why do people think that it is? I honestly don't understand it. Are they lumping the entire lockdown together including SD (and masks etc)?

They are fed up with lockdown and extending that to every covid-related restriction.

There are enough people on DDF who think so that you shouldn’t find this surprising.. feels like almost everyone I talk to these days thinks that.

I know lots of people are being careful and staying home, so they’re not the visible ones, but it sure looks like plenty of people have eased up big time on the restrictions.

Of course not, but it seems that the curve has been flattened and there still is no plan to move on in a safe and thought out manner. Not sure what the issue is but people are beginning to think they just can't get their act together.

If there would still be long lists of people getting hospitalized it would be very different.

The government kept saying over and over that the reason for all the restrictions is to flatten the curve. Now that it has been flattened...

I'm not saying there is no reason left for lockdown/SD, but I hear why some people would think that they can do whatever they want now.

One big thing that changed was that this was 'advertised' as if we make sure there are enough hospital beds and ventilators, no one will die. That turned out to be false, which could be a reason for continued SDing even after the curve has been flattened.

If everyone would practice social distancing, there would be no need for a lockdown anymore, nor in the future. People letting their guard down with regards to SD will lead us right back into the lockdown (whenever this one is finally lifted).

It's unfortunate that somehow they're conflated.


ETA: To be clear on definitions, social distancing is staying 6+ ft away from people you don't live with, wearing masks etc.; lockdown is the shuttering of risky places where people congregate, by the government.

We've been in a lock down for far longer than originally posited. SD is going to be normal for a long time, but there is no intent to move us out of the lockdown phase. That is why people are doing their own thing. At what point can you mix with your own family? Not for another year?  And look at how other countries are moving forward. The US of A cannot get anything happening?!

Have to add options to the poll:
Full social distancing- mask, 6ft etc.
or light social distancing- no visiting or interacting but 5 feet away or no mask is ok

Maybe the poll should be "are you still obeying the rules of lockdown". People getting together with family/friends may still be staying 6 feet apart.

Politicians. Mostly in regard to enforced lockdowns (which can seem arbitrary).
