Someone I know just received 3 extra deposits for 70.88 each.
What's this about? And why 3?

All children under 6 years of age who live in a household that receives SNAP will be eligible for $35.44/month if any childcare facility in the state was operating at reduced levels. While the plan proposes providing this benefit for the months of September 2022 through June 2023, P-EBT ends when HHS lifts the public health emergency for COVID-19, so this benefit will only be available from September 2022 through May 2023 (and not through June 2023).

NJ issued benefits for September, October and November 2022 in March 2023.

My assumption would be that the someone has 2 kids under the age of 6.

$890 is not the maximum benefit amount for any household size.
SNAP benefits are back to pre-pandemic rules as of March (note that there were two COLAs during that time, so base benefits are higher than in 2019/2020).

$890 was the additional amount I received in the past 2 years on the 20th of each month to reach maximum level in addition to the $1400+, I received in the beginning of the month .
So it's not back to pre-pandemic level, maybe on the books its back but not in reality

NJ will provide Summer P-EBT of $120 to all children enrolled in the lunch program. NJ hopes to issue these benefits in July/August 2023. Per federal guidelines, this will be the final Covid P-EBT benefit issuance.

NJ issued additional P-EBT in early April for children under 6 who reside in a SNAP household. The benefit was $29.44/month, and was issued for Dec 2022 & Jan 2023 ($58.88/child).

NY OTDA has announced that all 2020-2021 childcare P-EBT ($132/month for SNAP children under 6) and 2021 summer P-EBT ($375/child) have now been issued. 2021-2022 childcare and 2022 summer P-EBT will be issued next.

At this point non-SNAP households only qualify for summer PEBT. It's for anyone whose kid is enrolled in the lunch program (or if the school has a CEP exemption then all kids are enrolled regardless of income).
