Why does my monthly cashback automatically apply itself every month as a statement credit without me initiating it? Is there anyway to stop this and require me to manually apply it?

No way to stop. All amex biz cash back are automatically credited to next statement.
I canceled mine for this reason no fun in not seeing it accumulate
