I couldnt figure out how to install tab grouping but i found another way to get it. it officially says you can only use it for chrome beta but theres another way. type "chrome://flags/" into a new tab and type tab groups in the search bar. enable all the ones you want and you have it!.
its cute you can group things together and color code not sure if its super helpful. we'll see!
nothings impossible- the word itself says Im possible

The article I read last week said it would be rolled out to regular chrome users this week. So maybe that's why it's there now. I just enabled it, will give it a try.

I often 'group' tabs by dragging a bunch into a separate window (and sometimes onto my other screen) but maybe this will be better.

Anyone install the beta version and use this feature?
I used it and found it basically useless in comparison to Firefox's Simple Tab Groups addon. All it does is make a color for groups of tabs with all of them still showing.

Right. You can drag the group out to a separate window, which is nice. But it doesn't compare to FF tab groups.

FWIW I spent a couple minutes organizing my tabs and then the whole thing crashed and closed. I guess there's a reason it's still in beta.

Has anyone tried this extension? Looks interesting...

Okay I used it for a few minutes and I think I really like it! The extension is called Toby. It hijacks your New Tab page into a page where you can drag and drop your tabs and organize them into "collections". When you move a tab to a collection, it removes it the tab bar at the top of chrome, and you'd find it instead by opening the New Tab page and looking in the relevant Collection.

There's something called "tags" also which I haven't tried.

From the new tab page, you can save your session, open a specific tab, or open a whole collection.

If you create a free account you can sync your saved tabs between devices which is really nice. There's a paid version also which is for teams but the free version is unlimited for a single user. (If you don't create an account, your saved tabs will be saved locally on your computer.)

A couple things that I don't like so far (seem to be bugs):
1. When you drag a tab to a collection, it doesn't immediately remove it from your list of unsorted tabs. However, closing the tab you're in and opening a new "new tab" page will make it update.
2. Another thing - if you click to open a tab after you did some organizing, sometimes it opens the wrong one. Seems like a bug.

Hopefully they'll fix those things at some point!

Anyways, just posting my experience so far in case it helps anyone.

Update: it seems they fixed both of the bugs I mentioned. Still using this extension and really like it! Highly recommend.

Thanks, I'm just setting this up.
Is there anyway to have it not "hijack" my new tab page? That way I can keep my regular set up and access it via the pinned extension.

I think so, I remember seeing something on the FAQ

Will look for it. FWIW I really like it as the new tab page, since I can get to it anytime via control-t

I prefer my quick shortcuts for now, what i did is I added a "Toby Dashboard" bookmark to my bookmarks bar so even with the mini version you can access the full page view.
(You can even go deeper and make a custom shortcut to the specific page as mentioned here)
