solution to sleepaway camp - rent a cruise?
« on: July 15, 2020, 07:23:07 PM »
Just throwing out there a thought. With all those Carnival Cruise ships sitting in the docks doing nothing, why don't a few camps get together and rent one for a couple weeks? I have no idea how much they cost, but you can put a few hundred (maybe thousand) campers on them. They have pools, basketball courts etc. Once they sail then they are out of the territory of the dictatorial governors.
Might even be able to stay docked the entire time to save on fuel etc, if they are docked in any state that would allow camps

Use them as bungalow colonies too while you're at it. And yeshivas.

Dock them in Cayman islands and noone will bother you.

$720 a week per person. Not terrible.
Where would the profit for camp owners come from?

This only might be somewhat kinda in the the realm of practicality of all camps, bungalows, etc would band together and negotiate to rent the entire carnival fleet for a couple months. They are probably losing money for the boats right now and would love to recoup at least some of that.

I'm sure this isnt serious but just for fun i'll point out what a terrible idea it is. Imagine if one person on the ship tests positive for the virus. The entire ship will not be allowed to return to port. I wouldn't send to that camp.

Just keep it the for 4+ weeks? The USA wouldn't deny entry to a critically sick citizen and everyone else can just stay there until it passes through.

Did you miss the part where the US already did that?
