Why does one action that was not a kiddush hashem take away from the kiddush hashem of the other action?

A Kiddush Hashem does not mean making Goyim admire Yidden. Kiddush Hashem is doing Hashem's will despite difficulties, thus promoting the Glory of Hashem on this world.

Rashi in Yoma 86a seems pretty clear that kiddush/chilul Hashem is about doing mitzvos or aveiros.
