Masks and Covid
« on: May 23, 2020, 10:37:32 PM »
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/340570735_Masks_Don't_Work_A_review_of_science_relevant_to_COVID-19_social_policy

While some feel it looks good to wear a mask, "for the frontline workers", does science actually support it?

Is this similar to the models of the highly prestigious scientist that claimed curves that did not materialize? Is it government trying to make  people feel as if they are being protected?

Is touching a mask and improperly handling it worse then not wearing a mask?
Always praying for delayed baggage.

Didn’t read through everything but the origin of the place that published this is very telling, and every study they linked to was about masks as protection FOR the wearer, while currently masks are being used mainly to prevent transmission FROM the wearer, for which it would be more effective.

What's about all those people that had covid already?
Should government mandate masks for all when a large % of the population has no real need for wearing it, to the contrary it might make it worse, as some say mishandling a mask can be worse then wearing one?

Considering it’s estimated that less than 5% of the US has had COVID so far, it seems like a reasonable restriction to have in place. I haven’t seen all of the science on both sides but I assume that considering we’re primarily focusing on protection of *others*, and it’s not really the government’s business how *you* put on a mask, it definitely makes sense as a protection for *others*.

What about face shields? They seem a lot less restrictive.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

There is different lines of questioning required.

Health - is it actually healthy to wear masks, does it help?
Legal- Can a government legally require you to wear a mask?
Moral-

You seem to have some type of chip on your shoulder.

Yes we read everything you read we also thought about it he also came to the conclusion that it's better to wear a mask.

In general the concept is about the other person that means that I want other people to wear a mask so that I can feel safe and I don't want to be going around telling people that they have to wear a mask if I am not going to wear one.

With that said as with everything else use common sense if youre capable of reading these articles then you are capable of using your brains.

I sanitize my hands before I put the mask on I don't touch my face I don't touch the mask I sanitize my hands before I take the mask off I put it on my dashboard where it sits under the sun and the Florida UV rays clean it up

There is nothing wrong with having a reasonable intellectual discussion.

Who decides what's "random" and "misleading" that can "harm the public".

Just like many were screaming a  blanket  "lock down" is the right approach, now some scream masks it is.

FYI, there are many Dr's that believe they do more harm then good.

Why should someone trust government blindly?

They aren’t necessarily as safe. The theory goes that the air still goes out unrestricted, after bouncing off the shield. Masks actually filter the air, so the theory goes that larger droplets with virus stay inside while the rest of the breath goes out.

I think I'd prefer a shield over a mask.
Soon they might not give u a choice and require both. LOL, but I never know.

I wonder what will happen once we get hot and humid weather. I wonder how many people will be strictly wearing face masks.

I dont wonder.

As I posted in the past why lockdowns wont work, in the long run,  the USA is not asia where people have some higher degree of discipline. I predict there will be many areas in this great  country where mask wearing will be politicized.

I've personally already been attacked by liberals in ..... for not wearing a mask even though I have been over 6ft away from them.  It's already to a degree emotional and political.
