Putting aside all the noise that comes along with it, anyone find that their kids are doing better at their schooling and growth in general now that they aren’t tied to a desk all day?

Absolutely not. Kids MUST have a סדר that keeps that tied to a set schedule

Parents? A schedule didn't need to mean every second of the day

I believe Steve Jobs was a huge fan of the concept that creative free play is more important than strict scheduling. I don’t necessarily agree, I think routine is key, I’m just saying there are many who disagree with the concept.

There are so many variables at play here. Are the parents working or available?  Were the children doing well in school or was sitting all day a challenge? Children need structure but that doesn't mean they all need a full day of school. I used to tell my kid's teachers not to be insulted when he says he doesn't like school. If it was 100 years ago he'd be out plowing the fields!

Kids when they get bigger like 6 and up would vary between boys or girls , but once they turn around that age they can't be completely free birds otherwise they will go crazy even and feel a lack of סיפוק. Do they need to be in a class 9 hours a day ? No. It can be debatable how many hours is important for their structure, but school where they have a fixed schedule, learning new things is very important.

Yes I think everyone agrees at least *some* routine is important

What about getting out of the house and interacting with friends?

That some routine is only possible with school.

Or with very dedicated parents who don't work.

I doubt parents can make their kids feel the same commitment at home vs in school. School is still school.

Maybe 1 in 100. Who are the homeschooling type who fill the days up with lots of enriching activities and could easily be teachers themselves.

IDK

We don’t have the same structure as school, but there’s a fair amount of routine. Our kids are younger, but really happy to be home with us all day. My oldest (almost 6) told me he wishes the virus stays forever so we could just stay home together and not go to school/work. Huge compliment, but a big responsibility that requires a lot out of our parenting. I’m grateful for the stimulus check, PPP, PUA, and my job’s flexibility. There’s definitely a silver lining for us here, my children have really enjoyed, grown and matured leaps and bounds in these two months. But I can see how that isn’t true for everyone and even for us it isn’t sustainable in the long term.
