Preexisting beliefs regarding media and government play a huge role as well IMHO.

Possibly. Personally I lean more to the right in both of those areas usually but seem to be more to the left of many posters here on COVID.

I'm not specifically talking about right/left per se, but more along the lines of support or distrust of establishment/authority.

I would say someone's personality does play a role. But so does that of those around him IRL.
For example, in many parts of Lakewood/ Brooklyn, most are taking no precautions at all. So, even one who is more risk adverse, may make do with a mask.
Whereas, in parts of North Jersey, even outdoor minyanim with restrictions aren't always allowed. There, even one who is more of a "risk taker" might feel like they need 6-feet plus a mask at the ready, as apposed to always on.

Another theory I had (which seems to be supported by this poll https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=116913.0;viewresults) is that, at this point it has a lot to do with (perception of) immunity:
For the most part, those who have antibodies are the ones dropping precautions.
And those who don't have antibodies are doing the "extreme" precautions.
Which leaves those who didn't answer the 2nd question, probably, those unsure. For them, I assume it's a combination of personality and social (see previous post)
