The back and forth on this forum between the "it's over, COVID is done" vs. "humanity is certain to die out due to COVID-19" is nauseating (especially when in actuality, that's likely neither sides real opinion).
So....let's make this real. Right now there are 100K deaths in the US.
For all the people who are on side 1, pledge to give $1K to coronavirus victims campaigns if the final total of deaths is greater than 350K.
For all those on side 2, pledge to give $1K to coronavirus victims campaigns if the final total of deaths is less than 200K.
It’s an interesting idea. The main problem is I haven’t seen anyone here saying that humanity is certain to die out (though there have been posters who said outright COVID is done). Are you saying both of the opinions you referred to have been mentioned on these forums? Perhaps I just haven’t seen them.
AFAIK there is an extreme fringe that says “it’s over”, and many shades of gray following that with those most extreme on the other side believing “There is an extreme statistical likelihood it will get worse without significant intervention”.
Obviously, many more factors will be in play in for both sides, considering a cure, vaccine, more data, or government restrictions or lack thereof can change the picture completely.
