I have zero idea about space and sending people up there...

Can someone explain? Is this a risky thing?   If there is risk? Which part is the most risky, the actual launch or the entire flight is risky?

Also, is there anything to watch for that would make it either more or less succesfull?

MISSING:

A poll I created about the launch.

And while you are waiting, take this poll:

Will you be disappointed if the SpaceX rocket doesn't blow up?

Noted suspicious person @Something Fishy seen lurking on the thread in the moments before the disappearance.

REWARD!!

IINM the launch is by far the most dangerous part.

Almost all the disasters I can think of offhand were at launch. The exceptions being the Shuttle Columbia disintegrating on reentry (which was cause by damage incurred during launch) and Apollo 13 (I don't remember if that damage was launch related)

First non-government manned launch in history, and first manned launch from US soil in 9 years.

This is seen as the beginning of an age when passengers can pay money and fly to space.

These astronauts are from NASA, but it's a private agreement.

So for those who've been everywhere, this should get you excited. But TR please.

For the first time in history, a private company has launched people to orbit from U.S. soil.
A rocket ship built by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company thundered away from Earth with two Americans on Saturday,
NASA’s Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken rode skyward aboard a white-and-black, bullet-shaped Dragon capsule on top of a Falcon 9 rocket, lifting off at 3:22 p.m. from the same launch pad used to send Apollo crews to the moon a half-century ago. Minutes later, they slipped safely into orbit.

How many points?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Am I the only one who finds it fascinating to see a space station astronaut floating around preparing for for the newly arrived astronauts to disembark? I'm glued to the seemingly boring footage.

It's about to dock at the Itnl Space Station.

See live here:

Or
https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public
They will open the final hatch now and the SpaceX astronauts will enter the ISS.

I think it's interesting how much they are focusing on PR. While Space Station astronaut Chris Cassidy was working in his shorts most of the morning, he went a few minutes ago to change into his official uniform with the American flag on the sleeve. He also spent a long time making sure all the cameras in the entry area are set up.
