If you think for a second that cops don't already treat a suspect with a gun differently than a suspect with a knife you're crazy. I'm not saying whether they should aim for the torso vs the leg in such a situation. But you can't tell me it should be shoot to kill because suspect might return fire with a knife - and no, throwing the knife or rushing the cop to try to stab is not the same.
