Peaceful protesters have to respect the law, too. If they don't obey the instructions of the police that granted them the permit to assemble then they are not peacefully demonstrating anymore.

I have no idea if they were told that. I have seen reports they were told. Either way that has no bearing if they were peaceful or not.
