You believe that the police shouldnt have shot him while 'running away' what else should they have done to stop him.

If he could have gotten to his car he needed to be stopped at whatever cost.

If he was running away on foot... what do you think the cops should have done?
Keep running after him or call for back up. The guy is drunk. Go to his house or stay by his car. There was no need to use deadly force.

Ok I definitely hear that.

Would that also be the case if the suspect is running while holding a loaded gun? What is the power of a taser?

The police classify a taser as a non-lethal weapon. They can't have it both ways.
Someone steals your gun and points it at you. You shoot them without thinking twice.

This sounds like a solid reaction by officer

Did the officer know it was only a taser  that was grabbed?
The officer originally had his taser out why did he put it away and grab his gun? He must have had a reason?

Nice story but that didn't happen. No one was incapacitated and there was two officers.
You are probably one of those who said the girl should be shot for stealing/looting some clothes.  ::)

You watch too many movies...
Joe Biden suggested this too

Quote
Joe Biden, pandering to an African American audience, recently suggested cops “shoot them in the leg and not the heart” when an attacker comes at police with a knife.

Please diffrenciate between "about to be" and "was"

And there lies your answer

You're not suggesting a cop can only shoot after he is incapacitated, are you?

The police classify a taser as a non-lethal weapon.
1. I'm not sure that's correct, I believe they're often classified as "less-lethal."

2. Either way, non-lethal means that it's designed to incapacitate without killing, it doesn't mean it's never lethal.

Two officers let the suspect grab there weapon. FULL STOP!!!
Major blunder or as I call it incompetence. Now if they didn't know what he grabbed then major blunder two which led to major blunder 3.

You are probably one of those who said the girl should be shot for stealing/looting some clothes.  ::)

I would differentiate between a couple of looters that can be grabbed and prosecuted, and hundreds of looters where the only way to disperse would be a couple of shots.
No matter skin color.
And while not every time someone steals they are labeled "animal", in these huge looting sprees with hundreds of people looting malls etc, there are usually a few not just taking loot, but throwing bricks. torching etc. Those are the animals that deserved to be shot at. And the rest that are participating in the looting may not deserve to be shot at for their act alone, the fact that they are sticking with the mob knowing full well there is no other way to disperse other than a few shots, lump them in for the time being.

This all comes down to judgement and they made a very bad judgement call. We should expect and demand better.

Are you suggesting that both officers are so racist that they set Brooks up by intentionally giving him the weapon so they would have an excuse to shoot?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean...

Not once did I ever bring racism into this discussion. You don't ever let a suspect grab your weapon. That is a major blunder or whatever you want to call it. Losing their weapon is 100% their fault!

But I think we all agree this should not lead to:
1 rioting
2 looting
3 defunding any police
4 Atlanta Police Chief resigning
5 immediately Publicly charging the officer with a felony
6 burning a restaurant
7 demanding systematic change regarding racism
And the list goes on

Maybe systematic change regarding training and competency screening.... but I think that would require some money

Assuming it was their fault... After that happened they did what was necessary to bring the situation under control
