LOUISVILLE: Hours after a Kentucky grand jury brought no charges against Louisville police for Breonna Taylor’s death and protesters took to the streets, authorities said two officers were shot and wounded Wednesday night during the demonstrations expressing anger over the killings of Black people at the hands of police.

Interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said a suspect was in custody but did not offer details about whether that person was participating in the demonstrations. He says both officers are expected to recover, and one is undergoing surgery.

Can I ask an innocent question: why don’t police shoot at the legs?
Also, why 10 shots?

MAny years ago I had a teacher who was a part time officer. He told us that if he needed to use his gun he was trained to shoot at the largest part of the body where it is least likely to miss

Why was he shot?  Reminds me of the Israeli articles, violence after soldiers shot a Palestinian

wow. Very interesting - I’m guessing to limit any stray bullets situations.

Because in the heat of the moment you’re trained to do whatever you have to to immobilize the suspect, and can’t be expected to take the time to figure out how to do that with minimal damage.

right so my question was why aren’t they trained to aim for the leg so that it immobilizes the opponent but doesn’t kill him. And I don’t know psychology but you could argue that if you aim for the leg and miss the suspect would be frozen scared by the mere shot and perhaps surrender. Then again you could say the suspect would get desperate and just run at the cop idk

If you are uninformed. I'm not sure why it reminds you of anything.

You know little to nothing about the person you're facing in that moment. You have no idea how they'll react to getting shot at. In this particular instance, they were dealing with an individual who was struggling with mental health issues. If they aim at the legs and miss, does that give him time to cover ground and get within striking distance with his knife? You aim to stop the threat. You hope you can de-escalate the situation without firing your weapon. But if it comes to a point where the weapon has to be fired, you don't risk missing.

FWIU, hitting a small moving target (especially in a high stress situation) is very difficult. I think I saw a statistic that cops miss more than 50% of the shots they take.

Which explains multiple shots.

NYC Riots: Dozens of people were arrested, at least one officer was injured and police vehicles were vandalized Tuesday night during protests in Brooklyn over the death of Walter Wallace Jr., a Black man shot and killed by police in Philadelphia.

NYPD say 30 people were arrested and one officer suffered arm and leg injuries in last nights protests. At least nine police vehicles were vandalized, American flags were burned.

Got this email from a cuke D

Dear friends,

With the election days away, it makes sense that people are gearing up their voter turnout and voter protection efforts. At the same time, plans are being put into place to quickly move into public, nonviolent action if Trump interferes with or undermines the vote counting process and the results.

The Protect the Results coalition is organizing a nationwide, decentralized mobilization with a clear demand: all the votes must be counted and there must be a peaceful transition of power. To date, organizers in more than 300 locations around the country have pledged to convene protests to defend democracy - and this number is sure to rise in the coming days. Planning and organizing is underway so we’re ready to have people in the streets as early as Wednesday, Nov. 4 - the day after the election - if necessary. This is a tentative date and mechanisms to quickly get the word out with final dates and times are being developed. What we do in the aftermath of the election can be as important as what we’re doing before the election!
