NJ Rent Assistance Program
« on: May 31, 2020, 03:35:03 PM »
20% of funds will go for low income and those at risk of homelessness.
80% will be distributed via lottery for those with income below the published limits.

Applications will open in July.

Income must have been affected by the pandemic. Possible reasons include: layoff, reduced work hours, unpaid leave to take care of children due to school closure, or need to self-quarantine for 14 days which resulted in a loss of income.

Is there any indication yet how this will be assessed? What documentation would be necessary from the landlord? What if no receipts of past rental payments are available? Often landlords are laymen who don't have the accounting system in place for official business.

Must still be unemployed in July, or eligible if were layed off in march - June?
Many layoffs will be going back to work, esp as the FPUC ends on 7/31.

Income limits seem high, but it seems you must pay 30% of your income towards rent first, and any remainder will be covered by this.

So a family of 4 making 70K is technically eligible, but their rent must be over 21K a year to receive anything.

Am I missing something?

There's no clarification on what that 30% refers to. Perhaps it's current income as opposed to (previous) annual income?

Hypothesizing here but perhaps anyone who was financially affected can apply even if they no longer are affected, but they'll have to pay 30% of their current income before the State assists, so that's a second fail-safe to keep those who don't urgently need it from getting it?

It seems they're calculating your annual income based off what your weekly unemployment rate is.

Kinda inaccurate considering FPUC is ending on 7/31.

Any way around that?

For the rental assistance program. "List total cash value and total income received for assets owned by all family members." Does this mean I should write
the value of all my assets in addition to the income from these assets or just income from the assets?

Does your weekly unemployment rate in this case include the extra $600?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

They want the value of all your assets. One of the requirements is lack of assets or savings to pay rent. There are WhatsApp's going around which say if you are unemployment you are automatically eligible, but that is clearly not the case.

Well right now it does, and that's when Im filling out the app.

Not sure if theres guidlines somewhere to leave it out, in which case I'd be eligible. But don't wanna go to jail for fraud

How do I get a printout from unemployment? What do I put in for my wife who’s on disability(didn’t apply yet) and she’s going back to work in a week?

I did a screenshot from the "check status" status page. (It shows claim date and last week paid)
Not sure if it'll work or not, but couldn't think of anything else.
