Where to find a good/cheap bike helmet for an adult? (let's say occasional use)
can I just shop around online/amazon?
or does it need to be shopped in person?
does that bike supplies store in Crown Heights still exist?

I can't see a reason why you cannot buy it online. Measure your head for size. Most should have adjustable straps and a rotational dial for fit.
