I saw a report that people who were infected appear to be more protected against Delta than the vaccinated in Israel

A report? Link please?

“People who were infected”? Even if it’s been a year or longer since their infection?

Seems like everyone is saying Huh???  Not clear what this means.
On first reading, sounds like a huge difference:  3000 of the vaccinated got sick, only 72 of those who recovered from covid.
But of course, the vaccinated group is much much larger.  So it's
3000 out of 5,193,000 vaccinated people got sick = 0.0578%
72 out of 835,000 who had covid naturally got sick in the past couple months =0.0086%
Not as huge a difference.
And we don't know the ages here.  The earliest vax groups were >70 years old, I think, so that group might have a higher average age than the covid-recovered group.
This might partly explain the current machlokes within the Health Ministry re:what this means.

The problem is, like mentioned before, many (most) post-vaccine infections are not caught. Many of the ones they have caught were by accident, in people hospitalized for other things. The difference between post-vax and post-Covid infections is likely to be much greater.

Exactly.
On initial reading, 3000 vs 72 sounds like 41.6 times more.
Compared to that, 6.5 times more is not as huge a difference.

I'm not arguing that covid-recovered people don't have greater protection.  There was a post on this a few months back, that it's possible that the vaccine would give greater protection, because everyone would be stimulated to produce a large number of antibodies, unlike those naturally-infected, where the amount of antibodies may vary between people.  On the other hand, it's possible that those naturally infected would have greater protection, because their immune system creates a variety of antibodies to more parts of the virus, while the vaccine targets only one part.

This data that's coming out will help resolve that question, but they're haven't yet released enough details for us to understand what it means.

I'm not sure I understand why you say that.  Are you suggesting that there would be more asymptomatic infections among post-covid than among post-vax?  Why?

You're right (shocking). I don't know why I assumed that. Maybe because we've had a lot more time to discover post-Covid reinfections, and I haven't seen any numbers suggesting it's significant.

Data does not look good :(
I guess the only hope is that we are actually catching fewer asymptomatic cases because vaccinated don't need to bidud - so no incentive to test unless having symptoms

His point is that the positives/severe ratio is the same now (Delta variant) as it was a year ago in the first (Alpha) wave. His data seems to show that it’s a set ~2% that has remained constant throughout. I’m asking whether the same is true for deaths, if the positives/death ratio of a year ago is the same as today. Even just treatment protocols should be sufficient to improve that ratio.

Have treatment protocols improved in Israel vs alpha wave?
