So the goal is not to overwhelm the healthcare system so they are quarantining hundreds of staff per hospital which is leading to the system being overwhelmed......
Maybe they ought to rethink this.

There is apparently coming a full-blown lockdown with BG closing.

The Coronavirus Cabinet decided Thursday night to institute a full lockdown over the entire State of Israel beginning either the night of Wednesday, September 16, or the night of Friday, September 18, the first night of Rosh Hashannah. The lockdown will last for two weeks and encompass the Yom Kippur holiday as well.

Following the two-week lockdown there will be no classes for a further two weeks.

The decision will be brought to the government for final approval on Sunday.

Eight members of the Coronavirus Cabinet voted in favor of the decision, and four ministers opposed - Amir Peretz, Yisrael Katz, Yaakov Litzman and Aryeh Deri. The four are in favor of the possibility of imposing a night curfew instead of a full lockdown.

During a break from the Cabinet discussions earlier, Prime Minister Netanyahu issued a brief update to the public, saying that "Prof. Gamzu and the hospital directors came to the Corona Cabinet today and waved the red flag. They said that even though the number of severe cases in Israel is still relatively low, this could change in an instant and the hospitals will then be unable to treat them and there will be many severe cases and many deaths.

"They said that action must be taken – but we need to take action sagaciously and not recklessly; therefore, this takes many hours and, on the other hand, we must make a decision early enough so that we will all be able to get organized for the holidays, for Yom Kippur, and of course for Rosh Hashannah. I believe that a solution will be found that will stop the morbidity and allow us to emerge from the restrictions gradually and responsibly."

A new nationwide lockdown in Israel could include a total ban on all air travel, according to a senior Health Ministry official.

On Thursday, the Coronavirus Cabinet voted eight to four in favor of a plan to impose a second nationwide lockdown, likely set to begin either next Wednesday night or Friday night, and to last at least two weeks.

The lockdown may last as long as three weeks, and could also include an additional two-week closure of all schools.

While that plan must still be brought to the government for approval this coming Sunday, the Health Ministry is putting together a list of additional restrictions to be imposed as part of the lockdown.

One likely restriction is a total ban on air travel, Yediot Ahonort reported Friday morning, citing senior Health Ministry officials.

The officials said that it is likely that the lockdown plan, whose details are still being drawn up by the ministry, will include a complete ban on all air travel for at least two weeks.

“A lockdown means that there won’t be any incoming or departing flights,” one senior ministry official said Friday.

Israel’s Health Ministry stated on Motzei Shabbos that 3,961 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the previous 24 hours. There are currently 37,926 active patients, of whom 1,018 are hospitalized, with 495 seriously ill, of whom 138 are ventilated. The death toll has risen to 1,101.

The draft agreement that the Corona Cabinet created in a further attempt to slow the spread of the virus in Israel that will be brought to the government to ratify on Sunday, will include a full lockdown beginning on Friday, Erev Rosh Hashanah. The lockdown is set to begin at 6:00AM. The draft will also be shutting down the education system a few days earlier and all classes will cease as of Wednesday. Tefillos will be allowed outside in groups of up to 20 people.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but weren't Shabbos number usually half of the going average? Maybe they just processed more tests this weekend due to the emergency.

Housing Minister Yaakov Litzman resigned from the government on Sunday in protest of the government’s imminent decision to impose a general lockdown during the upcoming Yomim Naroim.

Litzman, the former health minister, had long threatened to resign if the lockdown plan is approved, and had also said his UTJ party could bolt the coalition

Current opinion polls indicate that together with UTJ and the Yamina and Shas parties, Netanyahu’s Likud will be able to form a government. But if UTJ stops supporting the premier, that option would be off the table. Therefore, Litzman is seen as a key, indispensable ally of Netanyahu.

I got a text message last night that I was in contact with someone who tested positive at a time when I was home. I called and they lifted my quarantine - but it really does not inspire confidence in the whole system.
