The Israeli army is preparing to build a field hospital. The hospitals are expected to reach their capacity red-line of 800 people in a week. All non-Emergency procedures have been cancelled.

Not much of a lockdown..............
Lol. It’s a lot more of a lockdown than we experienced in NJ.

The roads all over Israel are empty. The majority of people follow government instructions. Israel isn't attempting 100% eradication.

Now they are floating closing shuls for Yom Kippur, daled minim shuks, and mikvaos for erev y”k. There will be open rebellion if that happens.

It’s just compounded by the perceived ineptitude of the government and mistrust of a leadership that seems to be outright making things up.

driving around in israel today doesnt seem at all like a lockdown.

From city to city you might have a issue.

Going to landmarks like the kotel, kever rochel you will not be able

But general all is open stores, buses, people running around all over

Gamzu reported over 6,500 cases yesterday in Israel. That is the equivalent of 250,000 cases in the US. At this point Israel has 2 options:
  • Close Everything. Total and absolute full lockdown. No Shul. No gatherings. No protests
  • reopen everything and get herd immunity in a month

This half baked closure is an absolute joke. People are traveling where they want with no repercussions. Trains/busses are all still running. People are visiting friends and family with ease.

Israel is testing at a way higher rate than the US too.

Spoke to several people who have walked over multiple neighbourhoods in Yerushalayim on Rosh Hashanah and today and only saw a couple of policeman and weren't asked where they were going or stopped. Last night I saw a police checkpoint near Gesher Meitarim and they were stopping cars in both directions but today its gone.
Not much of a lockdown..............

Walked from Romema to the Mir multiple times.
No police.
Also no masks.
(I had a running count of how many people i passed and how many were wearing masks, it was less than 5%, though almost all the Gurers I passed Shabbos morning were wearing masks)

I was listening to Reshet Beit this morning, and for the first heard some lefty politician stating that there has to be consistancy with the regulations, if there's a limit on tefila there can be a limit on hafganot...the same way tefilla is outside your house, be mafgin outside your house.

They can "closing shuls for Yom Kippur, daled minim shuks, and mikvaos for erev y”k"... we (chareidim) are not going to be listening to them.

No police I agree with. But mask wearing is about 85% on Malchei Yisrael. Can't say about the other areas.

That may be true but the positive rate is now over 10%.

I will be surprised if YK in EY doesn't end up like Pesach in NY with all shuls closed.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Doubt it because they can't compromise and make outdoor minyanim in the sun on a fast. So no other option IMHO if Bibi still wants a government.

From a health standpoint, that would clearly be the prudent course of action. The last thing we need is to give new meaning to Yom K-Purim, r"l. But realistically, I think Bibi's hands are tied, because if he truly shuts shuls down and uses the police to prevent people from davening YK with a minyan, that's likely the end of his coalition, which the chareidim will be happy to remind him this week.

But if he does let YK and Sukkos/Simchas Torah proceed with minimal restrictions, I don't even know that a 100% total shutdown will be able to pick up the pieces at that point, Hashem yishmor.

Shas supports closing shuls. There is a majority for the coalition even if UTJ leaves, which they won't. There is no chance shuls will be open on YK for more than 10 people, and even that is highly unlikely. I doubt the police will enforce it too strictly in Charedi areas.

During the week, sure.
On RH it was WAY closer to 5% than 85%.

Average incubation is 5-7 days so it's likely the current number don't even reflect the majority of RH spread.

A record number of 6,923 new coronavirus cases in the previous 24 hours were confirmed in Israel on Wednesday morning, the highest number of daily cases since the start of the pandemic. The positive testing rate has risen to 11.4% and the total number of coronavirus cases leaped to 200,041. A mere month ago, there were only 100,000 virus cases.

There are 668 seriously ill patients, of whom 159 are ventilated. There were 31 additional fatalities recorded in the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,316. A total of 4,331 medical staffers are currently in quarantine.
