Herd immunity with the surrounding area not having met it doesn't mean that nobody can get it. There are levels of herd immunity.

Numbers are shooting up in the general population and there is only a ripple in our community. Tishrei is also a good example. It started and petered out at the same time that there were mass gatherings every day.

Apparently one of those that passed away recently did get it in the spring and never recovered.

Don't get me wrong, each death is a tragedy.

But, does herd immunity mean no-one gets it, or does it mean that any flare-up is likely to be contained?

I just spoke to someone who I daven with that told me his 10 year old son currently has it with symptoms more commonly found in adults (extreme weakness and fatigue). He and his wife had it in the spring.

That might depend on the percentage opting out without a mandate, which is why I’m wondering if it’s known what that number is. If it’s small enough and they vaccinate everyone else then it might be negligible.

I hear, I don’t know. It would be speculation data obviously. We’ll soon know
