I heard they get tons of money for each corona death so they're putting corona on basically any death certificate

My statement was based on what a nurse working in one of the hospitals told me, after I got upset about my daughter having been exposed while in the hospital.  She was trying to reassure me that it is not as bad as being reported.

In previous waves, there were numerous people that I knew (slightly, for the most part) who were niftar from Covid.  Currently, many more of my acquaintances than in previous waves are testing positive, but the only deaths are people who were hospitalized for totally unrelated issues.

Why would the hospital be reporting them as corona deaths?

She claimed that the misrad habriut is trying to scare people into being more cautious, especially since the government isn't really putting any new guidelines into place.  As for the hospitals, she said that they are reporting things the same as they always did - some are deaths FROM Covid, and others are WITH Covid.

So the claim is that they are falsely inflating the numbers to make themselves look bad?

It’s not really as bad as they say. The hospitals are overflowing with people who have COVID but are actually being hospitalized with something else. Strange world I guess.

Exactly what they said last year, until the excess death numbers proved that COVID was actually underreported everywhere.

My OP was more about the treatments offered to the general population in Israel. Locally, anyone over a certain age, or at risk can get monoclonal antibodies very easily. I am hearing that symptoms practically disappear within hours of receiving the antibodies. Are they doing this in Israel?

Why ask about Israel? 541 people died of COVID in the US yesterday. Do they not have access to antibodies?

True. Good point. I guess I was focusing on the frum news reports.

Please reread my post - they are not misreporting.
They are reporting those that die of Covid as being Covid deaths, other deaths where the patient has Covid as well are being reported BY THE HEALTH MNISTRY as Covid deaths, once they connect the names in their system.  The health mnistry is trying to scare people into being more cautious - which  I wish were working.

Wait, so the government is intentionally lying and trying to make it look like they are doing worse than they actually are in order to scare people? That is the theory?

186k tests in Israel yesterday. A new record.

Serious cases refusing to increase bh already for weeks.

Cases nosediving among charedim, but skyrocketing among Arabs.

I am sure that they do not consider it to be lying - in the same way that calling a death from a fall after a heart attack either death from a fall or a death from a heart attack would both be true, and both be misleading.  Without the heart attack, the person wouldn't have fallen, and without the fall he would have had a better chance of surviving the heart attack.  A patient with Covid is at higher risk, no matter what he is in for, and even if his death is unrelated, it could be a contributing factor.  In the first wave, there was someone (I don't recall who it was) who pointed out that when the hospitals are overcrowded because of Covid, Covid can be considered a contributing factor in almost all hospital deaths.

The usual practice is to record both the immediate cause of death as well as other contributing factors, with the understanding that it is often not possible to ascertain which is primary at the moment of death.  So most death certificates contain multiple causes.

You say that this is "misleading", which implies that those who record the death are misinforming others.  A better term would be "misunderstood", that is, the general public who read a death certificate are often unaware of the reasons for including multiple contributing factors, and some of them may mistakenly suspect that it is something that suddenly appeared in covid times.  It's been done like that for a century or so.
