Where did master/slave come from for hard drives?
maybe from the institution of slavery which started before and outlasted the specific black slave to white owner?

I don't know but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with black slaves/white masters because the article surely would have said so.

Maybe it's an analogy. Is the entire concept of a slave and master inextricably tied to American slavery?

I think Every Man A Slave by Sender Zeyv should be required reading because it compares and contrasts these things very well.
Small people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things
BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

Great question. What do you think?
In what country does Master/slave not have a negative meaning?

Master - a man who has people working for him, especially servants or slaves.
slave - a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Slavery is concept that exists. It's not good but it's a concept. Analogies to that concept should not be offensive.

In my line of work we create easements over properties, making a dominant and servient estate. Do you think that is offensive?

(I should call CNN with that one)

So a black person should not feel offended when they see the term Master/slave?

I am confused with you calling slavery a "concept". Is the Holocaust a "concept"?

Genocide is a concept. The Holocaust is an event. Using the term genocide is everyday parlance is not offensive to me. Using the Holocaust is.

Slavery was also an event that happened just the same as the Holocaust.

I hope you are not disagreeing slavery was an actual event.

OK but my question is are you disagreeing that slavery was an actual event and not just a concept in this country?

Slavery occurred in this country the same way genocide occurred in Europe.

Mention of the concept of slavery does not automatically invoke American slavery. It is damaging and divisive to suggest that those who use slavery as an analogy (or if they continue using it after CNN says you shouldn't) are racist.

My perspective on this would change if it were black people saying they are offended rather than white elites telling black people they should be offended.

Is the term "nuclear holocaust" anti-Semitic?

I doubt it. If it were a general sentiment then CNN would be quoting black advocacy groups, not college professors.

As I said, it's nothing more than virtue signaling and it's gross.

So a black person should not feel offended when they see the term Master/slave?

Why, in your apparent opinion, have black people cornered the market in the rights to offense when they see the term master/slave?

Are you aware that other races, ethnicities have also experienced slavery?

Mostly I would say because when we talk about slavery in this country it is about blacks.
No one said they cornered the market.  If you don't understand why a black growing up and living in our great country would be offended by the term Master/slave nothing I can say will help you. What will help you is go live in the inner city for a year among the backs and then you will understand. No
I don't mean that literally but you get the point.
