Signatures on credit cards.

Best is when your card is not signed so they ask you to sign your card and the receipt and then they COMPARE the signatures!
I just signed both of them in front of you!

Well, I actually find that very useful as the occasional reminder of the world we live in.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

It's not really helping anyone. If someone found my (unsigned) card and used it, making them sign the card and the receipt doesn't verify their identity.

In Europe they use chip and pin instead of mag stripe and signature (or no signature most of the time).

That seems a little safer IMO

You totally missed my point. I meant to say it is helpful in realizing how many "brilliant" people are around us, that would ask to sign the card and receipt right in front of them.

Oh, LOL. If you want to see some of these "brilliant" people I suggest visiting a Walmart, lots of them tend to hang out in such places.

And a word of caution, if you are visiting Europe and using a card that's not signed, make sure you sign the card before you go to the store.

I had some friends who were in the UK and the worker wouldn't let them pay with the card because it wasn't signed. The employee told them that they have to come back the next day if they wanted to use that card!

I had the same problem (6 years ago) when trying to pay a taxi driver in Prague.

First card I pulled out wasn’t signed, so even though I pulled out matching passport, he refused to take any other cards from me. This was taxi from airport to hotel, and I didn’t have any local currency (and he didn’t want USD).
Had to switch money at hotel exchange desk to pay the guy.

I had that in Belgium, had to show my ID and she made me sign on a separate piece of paper then she compared it to the one on my ID

Has anyone ever had an employee say that the signatures DON'T match?

They always compare them, just wondering if there is any first hand experience of them saying you signature is not the same as the cc/id

Actually has a use, when one needs the occasional relief from the noise. I never thought I'd use that setting, except in my office where one of the units is just way too noisy. But I do have a pedestal fan working all the time, so comfort level is acceptable.
