From my experience though, in that mode the A/C is off like 90% of the time!

ETA: your fan might help distribute the cool are around so that the A/C doesn't turn off as soon as it cools off its own daled amos.

I find the going off and on more jarring than the constant drone.

That shouldn't be the case. My office window A/C unit is pretty useless without the pedestal fan in front of it, circulating the air/blowing it in the right direction. The major problem with window A/C units is that all the sensors are right there at the source.

Right. They should invent units with a wireless sensor that can be placed elsewhere in the room so the whole room gets cooled off before the unit turns off.

In EY window units are an extinct breed. It's all split units. Might happen in the US too sooner or later.

Major prob in USA is the price. Split units in US are inflated but they seem to be rising in popularity for multi temp zones for those who can afford it

The advantages I mentioned were over central.

As opposed to window units they are by far quieter. More flexibility in installation location (though much more expensive than a window unit).

thanks! Quiet is nice. Do they do a better job of cooling evenly than window units? (I mean besides for the energy saver issue)

Yes. It's placed in a much better place. Cold air sinks, split units are placed higher up then window units, Giving it more time to spread around.

Nice! What about hallways, bathrooms, etc. Does it help them cool off even without a unit right there? That's one thing I hate about window units.
