My view on this whole matter: I hate when the SCOTUS becomes a political topic. I always saw them as a sacred body. Yes, each justice has their own views of the constitution, but they were meant to remain unaffected by what happened in the world. As such, they were beyond reproach, and it was taboo to talk about their intentions.
All that seems to have changed. Justice Roberts seems to believe that the court should not be predictable, and has gone out of his way to pander to both sides of the political spectrum. This has opened him up for major critique. I still wish Senator Cruz wouldn't admonish him on the floor of the Senate. However, the mixing into politics makes it almost inevitable.
To me, though, the integrity of the body remains a topic I shy away from discussing. If we can cast aspersions on them, we have nothing holding this country together. I say this about every single member of the court, even the ones whom I wish for their speedy retirement.
