Can we talk about how awful they are?

I'm going to Miami next week and plan on smuggling plastic straws into restaurants.

why didn't you sneak some onto the boat?

Why do you get a straw with a glass of water/coke in the first place?

Some people don't trim their mustaches. I have a friend that actually has his soup with a straw due to this reason.

Three pages and no religious angle so far.  :)

Still at 1 page, but maybe the above might qualify... There might be some kabbalistic reasons not to trim a mustache.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I honestly don't know. The Rambam states that one is permitted to shave it off with a תער, but despite that לא נהגו ישראל להשחיתו אלא יגלח קצתו עד שלא יעכב אכילה ושתיה.

I don't believe the Rebbe ever trimmed his. I don't know about other Chassidic leaders.

And if there's no kabbalistic reason for it, raising the question on whether there is one is definitely a religious angle. ;D

There may be Chassidish leaders that don't trim, but the Ben Ish Chai was asked and says that there isn't a Kabbalistic reason. He says that the Ari Zal trimmed the part that would go over his lips.

I don't remember in which of his seforim I saw this right now.

See my edit.

Are you aware of famous Chassidic leaders that trim their mustaches?

They have bigger problems then.  :)

What irks me the most is the gall of the planet savers who impose their draconian ideals and philosophies (each debatable in their own merit) on everyone through passing these legislations.

I have nothing against the idea of caring for the environment and our fragile ecosystem, but why can't each individual have the ability to choose where he wants to make his impact? I will decide based on my personal financial and convenience concerns. Why must there be blanket laws that strip away our ability to decide for ourselves?

My two cents for "Greenies": educate and encourage. But leave us alone. Don't tell us what to do. People respond better to encouragement, whereas forcing ones hand through government decrees just invites resistance and distaste for the entire ideaology.

Agreed but that is the liberal argument.

I'm starting to be convinced that it's a ploy by companies to save money....

Started when I saw an office depot truck the other day whith a sign on rear "This Truck can not go above 40 mph even I'm highways to save gas and keep the environment clean.

Before the environment part registered I was thinking why would they want to advertise they're being cheap at the expense of your convenience (40mph on highway, seriously?)

A friend was in a store and saw pocketbooks with a big sign that said "Vegan Friendly"
.... it sounds a lot nicer than "Fake Leather"

That's what French is for, so it doesn't sound so blatant and actually have an exotic tune to it. Just enunciate it: Faux leather. It actually might sound better than just plain old "leather". After all, leather can be referring to fruit leather. But throw in a French word, and there's no way anyone can imagine you're talking about anything but some top of the line item.

Kinda like hotels who reduce their cleaning service (and/or change your towels/linens less frequently) because they’re “going green”? The only thing greener is their bottom line.
