you wish, City will just hire more traffic cops they are money makers. regular cops on the other hand I am not so sure about....

Traffic cops dont give out BS seat belt/phone tickets/turning lane tickets.

The city won't end up with fewer cops. They'll just lower the bar for who they hire (not that the bar was high to begin with).

Lol, you obviously haven't been hanging out in NYC recently. To your first point, IINM the city does put a hiring freeze on NYPD and allocate to other divisions (such as pursuing landlords etc) when they have a progressive govt .

I haven't been hanging out there recently, and I try not to in general. However, any freeze is temporary. All this means is fewer cops on the streets for a little, and the cops that are out there are less experienced. Within a short amount of time, that will lead to an increase in crime, along with the likelihood that an inexperienced cop does something stupid, which can lead to an overreaction in policy and a surge of new young and dumb in blue on the streets. Big picture, I don't think this helps anyone.

Or perhaps they reevaluate the budget allocated to the NYPD in its entirety. Complete reform. Obviously never going to happen, but the current situation isnt much better now anyways, so one can only dream.

Its not a positive thing either way. Do you think the cops choosing to leave the force now are the problematic ones? Most likely its the opposite. And it becomes much harder to clean house when you're short staffed (to whatever degree cleaning house was even likely)
