But its a joke

I don't understand what people are expecting? It's a quarentine form not passport control. They don't care what you do. They just want to have your info in case you test positive or someone else on flight does, so they can get everyone to test/isolate.

Yes and yes. Its encouraged to fill out and there's a box at the gate to drop it off. But you can do as you like theoretically.

New York and New Jersey have added 10 states to the list from which travelers are required to self-quarantine for 14 days, and Connecticut are expected to follow suit. The newly-added states are Alaska, Delaware (re-added), Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Virginia and Washington (re-added). Minnesota has been removed from the list.

New York plans to levy a $2,000 fine against certain travelers who leave airports in the state without submitting a form that says where the travelers are arriving from and where they're going.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said the fines would apply to travelers from the list of states - including Texas and Florida - who are required to quarantine for 14 days under New York's travel advisory. New Jersey and Connecticut do not have this rule in place.

Nothing new on the NY list as of now (although they have the same rules as NJ, so it's just a matter of time until they update).

Stupid idiots. Alaska had 2,412 positive cases in total. NY had 412,000 and NJ 179,000.

But Alaska is the problem here 🙄.

True. But please excuse my ignorance in asking what's the difference in population? Don't get me wrong. I'm in no way defending Cuomo...

Of course the population sizes can't compare. But saying that someone who went to Alaska has the same chance of bringing covid home is the same as if they visited, say, California, is just asinine.

This is by nature binary, either you need to quarantine due to risk, or you don't. And they obviously consider Alaska a risk; not sure why you're comparing states.

The whole methodology is backwards. They give a blanket quarantine order to any state that is experiencing a 10% increase in positive cases. This is skewed against any state with a low population and any state with low case counts until now. Places that got hit harder earlier can end up sliding under the 10% threshold even if they have more current positive cases (whole number) or more positive cases per capita.

No, they made a stupid rule without regard for facts on the ground. Blanket rules don't work for states with vastly different realities.

This is 100% correct:

The whole methodology is backwards. They give a blanket quarantine order to any state that is experiencing a 10% increase in positive cases. This is skewed against any state with a low population and any state with low case counts until now. Is NY following up on those who fill out the form? Anyone flew into NYC airport and had someone follow up with them?
